LANCELOT DU LAC ran a cracker when second on Saturday at Lingfield in a Listed race when giving weight away all round.
Carrying a 3lb penalty for his last win in Listed company was never going to be easy but this horse has been in terrific form on the all-weather over the winter winning seven of his previous eight races on an artificial surface.
In the end, he was beaten just half a length by the fast finishing Royal Birth but this was no disgrace and he is now eligible for the All-Weather Sprint Championships Final at Lingfield on Good Friday.
Jack The Laird is difficult to win with but again he came close, this time at Wolverhampton over 5f under apprentice Jack Duern, when beaten half a length. He will win more races but needs everything to drop right for him.
Of the other four runners, Cappananty Con was third but in a bizarre twist, the race was declared void and Firmdecisions and Nicky Baby ran creditably to be fifth in their respective races.
