REVIEW OF THE WEEK: CON CAPS A GOOD WEEK FOR YARD

Cappananty Con – impressive winner at Wolverhampton

CAPPANANTY CON broke his duck last week when winning impressively at Wolverhampton in a week which saw the yard have a win and two seconds from four runners.

Dean has always held the 3yo son of Zebedee in high regard but things have not always gone his way, although his previous form on the all-weather did entitle him to plenty of respect last week over six furlongs under top weight.

Despite losing his position and having more in front of him than behind on the home turn, the well backed 5/1 shot showed a good turn of foot to scythe down the opposition and win going away from the favourite, Magdane Fox by 3/4 length.  It will be interesting to see what the handicapper does but there is no doubt Cappananty Con is sprinter with a future.

Owners may remember that the late Carolyn Whitaker had a quarter share in the horse.  She enjoyed seeing him at the stables and it is sad that she was unable to see her judgement being rewarded on the racecourse.

Seconds were achieved by Treble Strike in a 12f maiden at Lingfield under Robert Winston while Lulu Standford, so nearly resumed winning ways on Secret Bird, the paid being beaten a head at Chelmsford, back over six furlongs.

Today, All-Weather Horse of the Year, Tangramm has a favourite’s chance of getting back in the Winner’s Enclosure at Wolverhampton.  The well-supported 15/8 jolly is top weight in the 4.30, a handicap over one and a half miles and after running well when beaten just a length last time out over course and distance 13 days ago, he should go close today.  Robert Winston rides.  Dream Factory looks the main danger.
