LIBRISA BREEZE and LANCELOT DU LAC are Dean Ivory’s two Royal Ascot runners today in the Group One Commonwealther Cup (4.20pm) and the Wokingham (5pm) and both could do with much needed rain.
The former had a tremendous season last year at Ascot with a second in the Royal Hunt Cup over a mile and two wins in the International and the Totesport Challenge Cup on Good to Firm and Soft respectively. He has not run for 252 days and this is a drop down to 6f at Group One level so it is a huge ask for the 5yo son of Mount Nelson.
With the likes of specialist sprinters such as Limato as The Tin Man and Tasleet in opposition, Librisa will need to put up a career best to justify odds of 14/1.
Lancelot Du Lac has had a good time of it on the all-weather and this ten times winner was third in the Wokingham in 2015. He is now two pounds lower and is a huge price at 40/1. The 7yo Shamardal gelding has won three times on the turf, twice on Good to Soft and once on Good so today’s lightning fast ground is certainly not ideal.
Robert Winston rides both horses and for coincidence backers, the horses are both number six and are both drawn 10. They will need every bit of Lady Luck today to feature in two extremely competitive races.
