LANCELOT DU LAC won a last gasp Listed race at Lingfield today by a nose to secure his first ever Pattern victory and trigger a near 17/1 double for Dean Ivory.
The 7yo son of Shamardal was keen early and ended up wide but he finished strongly under Robert Winston and won in the last stride to secure the £25,000 first prize. This was his sixth win out of his last seven all-weather starts and his 10th career victory in 43 races.
The perhaps surprising aspect of Lancelot’s win was his starting price, a rather generous 11/2! In contrast, Varsovian was a very well backed 7/4 favourite when completing the double for the Master of Harper Lodge Farm.
Going into the 6f race, Varsovian was well handicapped, 6lbs below his last winning mark and with Robert Winston back on board for the first time in 11 races, the scene was set for a big run and the Refuse To Bend gelding duly obliged.
Dean Ivory has made a good start to the year with five wins on the board at a strike rate of 19%.
