LANCELOT DU LAC was Dean Ivory’s first runner of 2017 tonight at Chelmsford in a decent 5f handicap and he made the perfect start for the yard with a convincing win under Robert Winston.
Despite being absent for six months, this classy 100+ performer was a cut above his rivals in this 0-105 contest and the 7yo son of Shamardal, always going easily, ran out a ready winner by 3/4 length, his ninth career success. He has now won just under £1/4 million in prize money.
Harper Lodge Farm sent three horses to the Essex track and all were in the prize money. Second up was hot favourite, Secret Bird, who was chasing a hat trick under apprentice, Lulu Stanford but unable to blaze from the front, he was always struggling from his draw but did well to finish third.
Firmdecisions, back down to 7f, was a massive 25/1 in the afternoon but shortened to 12/1 and always up with the pace, ran a fine race over his favourite trip to take second for Robert Winston.
So Dean’s first three runners yielded a winner, a second and a third. I’m sure he’d take that any day of the year!
