“INSIDE THE RAILS”, a podcast for horse racing fans, sponsored by the RSA has episode 3 available now. Following our interview with Tom Scudamore last month, the latest podcast includes a fascinating interview with Perth Racecourse CEO, Hazel Peplinski conducted by yours truly and podcast co-host, Phil Boyle.
Everyone in racing has been affected by the pandemic, none more so than the racecourses who have been starved of much needed income from paying spectators since last March. Perth Racecourse, an independent and the UK’s most northerly track has had its own challenges, particularly associated with it being a summer jumps course.
Hazel is passionate about horses and racing and that passion shines through as she discusses the importance of owners and syndicates to the whole industry”
“Without the owners, we have absolutely nothing. I think people are appreciating now, that these owners, if it wasn’t for them, we don’t have any product. We don’t have any attendances at the moment, so without any product, we don’t have any betting income. It’s made it clearer than ever that we absolutely rely on owners to keep the whole circus going.”
Apart from an insightful interview with Hazel Peplsinski, Phil and I also review the festive racing which took place at Kempton and Leopardstown. There took place, as always a veritable feast of racing and there were plenty of stars on show. Some rose to the occasion such as A Plus Tard and Frodon while others such as Altior and Epatante disappointed and we look at the impact those performances had on the betting markets for Cheltenham 2021.
