I’M RUNNING LATE ran true to his name with a perfectly executed run in the final furlong at Lingfield to give Dean Ivory a welcome victory after some near misses recently.
The 3yo chestnut son of Sepoy was having just his third ever run and the penny certainly dropped today as jockey Pat Cosgrave came with a scything run inside the distance to beat the favourite, going away by three and a half lengths. The drop in distance to 1m2f may have helped the 8/1 shot, although the way he won going away suggested he will get further.
Harper Lodge Farm has been hitting the crossbar recently with two seconds yesterday and several places during the last week. Maybe this could signal an upturn in fortunes for the yard which traditionally struggles in May due to the adverse effects of the local rape seed pollen.
Last year, June was a bumper month with eight winners, so Dean Ivory will be hoping for more of the same this time around.
