HISTORY was made in more ways than one yesterday as Frankie Dettori won a record fifth Arc de Triomphe aboard Enable, the first British-trained filly to win Europe’s richest race.
High fives was the order of the day as the Nathaniel filly was owner Prince Khalid Abdullah’s fifth Arc following Trempolino and Rainbow Quest in the 1980s, Rail Link in 2006 and Workforce in 2010.
As for Enable, she was winning her fifth successive Group One following success in the Oaks, Irish Oaks, King George and Yorkshire Oaks.
Fillies have had a remarkable strike rate in recent times with seven of the last ten runnings of the Arc going to the fairer sex including Treve, who won back to back victories in 2013 and 2014. Will Enable defend her crown next year at Longchamp? The vibes are…quite possibly!
Whenever this superb tough filly retires, I suspect bookies will not be opening a book on which sire she visits.
Frankel….remember him? Owned by a certain Saudi prince!
