BUSY DAY AT CHELMSFORD WITH FIVE RUNNERS

Jack Duern – aboard three of stable’s runners today

HARPER LODGE FARM sends out five runners today at Chelmsford: Firmdecisions and Dark Magic in the Apprentice Handicap at 5.45pm, Fighting Temeraire and Blaze Of Hearts in the 8.15 and finally I’m Running Late in the 8.45.

Jack Duern is aboard three of them including Firmdecisions who looks to have a sound each-way opportunity at 6/1 in the 7f handicap with the horse a pound lower than for his last win eleven months ago over course and distance.  Dark Magic is very lightly raced and after winning a 7f maiden at Newmarket, he disappointed subsequently at Newbury.  This is his all-weather debut and he should have more to offer.  At 25/1 under William Cox, who claims five, he looks overpriced.

Fighting Temeraire and Blaze Of Hearts take each other on in the mile handicap and the former is stronger in the market at 12/1.  Adam Kirby is an interesting booking and although the son of Invincible Spirit is drawn wide in 14, he is two pounds below a winning  mark and on his only all-weather run to date, he was second at Chelmsford over 7f back in 2015.  Blaze Of Hearts with Jack Duern aboard should not be discounted at a top-priced 18/1.

Jack’s third ride for the yard is on I’m Running Late in the 1m5 1/2 handicap.  First-time cheek-pieces might help and the 12/1 shot has each-way claims and although there’s a question mark about the trip (has won over 1m2f), he’s not totally out of it.
