IT’S awards season in the film industry with “La La Land” having broken records at the Globes while the Baftas and Oscars are just around the corner but in a quiet, secluded part of Hertfordshire, an equine film crew came down to spend Friday morning at Harper Lodge Farm.

Ten equine stars were being filmed on the gallops by the video promotions company, Sirecam, run by Sam Sangster, son of the legendary racehorse owner-breeder, Robert Sangster.  They included Solario Racing’s exciting 2yo Zebedee colt, which is being syndicated in 1/12th shares.

The horses did two canters in single file, spaced several seconds apart and each was filmed with Dean Ivory providing the voice over commentary.  The Master of Harper Lodge Farm observed that the Zebedee colt although he was a little “camera shy at first, is an out and out two-year-old, who really covers the ground.”

Others on the gallops included Angel Of The South, a nice grey 2yo filly by Dark Angel and a lovely unnamed Sir Percy colt, both owned by the Yarrow family.

Considering it was all new to them, the horses, many of them raw 2yos, behaved very well and the experience will have done them the power of good.

The film crew took a lot of nice shots of the yard and the plan is to come down again next month to take more footage which will be used as part of a new Dean Ivory Racing web site.

In the meantime, let us hope some of the La La Land stardust rubs off on some of the Harper Lodge Farm youngsters!
