EIRENE, the very impressive winner of the Listed Bathwick Tyres St Hugh’s Stakes at Newbury last week, has been raised 23lbs by the handicapper to 101!
A huge hike in the weights was always likely given that the Declaration Of War filly was running off a mark of 78 and she beat nine horses rated in the 80s and one, Out Of The Flames, rated 98, who was third in the Queen Mary.
It wasn’t just her one and three-quarter lengths victory which caught the eye but the manner of her success with the Robert Winston-ridden juvenile showing a good turn of foot and staying on strongly. Now a black type filly for her owner Michael Yarrow, Group races now beckon.
Eirene’s climb into the 100+ ratings means she is the joint-third rated horse at Harper Lodge Farm with Stake Acclaim, behind Librisa Breeze in pole position on 112 and Lancelot Du Lac, rated 107.
