Fortia – runs at Yarmouth

SILVESTRE DE SOUSA, champion jockey elect, rides Fortia for Dean Ivory today at Yarmouth (3.40pm) and the 3yo looks interesting on her handicap debut.

Ten go to post in the 1m 3 1/2 furlong 0-60 handicap and although the 3yo daughter of Nathaniel has shown little in four maidens to date (three of which were for William Haggas), she is likely to be more at home in handicap company and runs today off a mark of 59.

De Sousa, who was champion jockey in 2015 is currently on 135 winners, 44 ahead of his nearest pursuer and last year’s champion, Jim Crowley.  The Brazilian is destined to land his second title and hopefully today will be another step forward with a win on Fortia.  She should cope with the soft conditions (her sire, Nathaniel was very effective with give) and certainly looks worth a second look each-way at 6/1.

Dean’s other runner is Goldslinger at Chepstow over two miles with Jack Duern on board in the 5.25, a two mile  handicap.  Likely to front run as usual, he should appreciate the drop back from 2m2f and looks overpriced at 11/1.  Again, he looks each-way material.
