ANGEL OF THE SOUTH is a 66/1 outsider today in the big sales race at York, the Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes, worth over £180k to the winner and with prize money down to tenth place.
Rated 83, the Dark Angel filly, is one of 19 which go to post for the 6f contest (1.55pm) and although she’s run some good races at Windsor and been a shade unlucky not to have won by now, it’s a big ask for her to trouble the judge today. She will be doing well to beat the likes of Darkanna, De Brunyn Horse and Rufus King, rated 93, 101 and 102 respectively. While “Angel” could outrun her price under Josephine Gordon, the favourite, Hey Jonesy could be a threat to all.
At Chepstow, Jack Duern rides Sweet Sienna in the 2.35 and Goldslinger in the 4.40. The former is interesting, dropping down to 5f and off a three pounds lower mark than for her last effort, she has an each-way chance at 16/1, which looks too big a price.
Goldslinger is well handicapped and the 8/1 shot has course form but he may struggle over the 2m2f trip and a more likely winner is Sir Mark Prescott’s Oxford Blu.
