AS 2019 draws to a close and we all look forward to 2020 and the dawn of another new decade, Solario Racing can toast the New Year on the back of another successful season.
We began the year with three horses in our care, 4yos, Spring Romance and Don’t Look Down and exciting 2yo, Dancinginthewoods. The first of these, a son of Zebedee, had won four of his seven races the previous year and gone up two stone in the handicap. He had a rather mixed season and never managed the consistency of 2018 but his finest hour was his win at Nottingham in June in a competitive 6f handicap when he battled to win at the rewarding odds of 25/1 much to the delight of Solario Racing (Berkhamsted).
Dancinginthewoods, a really good-looking Garswood colt really set the cat among the pigeons with a first-time out victory on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile in May at 50/1! He was fourth and second in his next two starts at Epsom and Doncaster. The first of these was in the Woodcote Stakes when the winner was none other than Pinatubo, who goes into the winter unbeaten for Godolphin, rated 128 and hot favourite for next year’s 2000 Guineas.
Don’t Look Down, who displayed so much promise with a fourth, a third and two seconds in four starts in 2018, is still on the easy list but is making good progress. His patient syndicate Solario Racing (Tring) were rewarded for their patience when Classic Charm, whom they leased for the summer and autumn, had five races and was first, second and third with the win, a seven-length demolition job at Nottingham in August.
So all of Solario Racing’s horses that ran, won and all were ridden by the up and coming Joey Haynes. He rode other winners for Harper Lodge Farm, including three on Fantastic Flyer and he is sure to ride more winners for the yard in 2020.
Solario Racing finished the year with four horses, having purchase a strong, stunning filly by Wootton Bassett. She is being syndicated in quarter shares and there’s just one share available!
We wish all owners, trainers and jockeys a Very Happy New Year!
